Most flows relevant to the process industry are turbulent. For the various application areas, the flows mostly take place in complex internal geometries, sometimes with swirling flow or flows with strongly curved streamlines. The range of turbulence models available in the ANSYS CFX software is of prime importance for effective prediction of these flows.
For example, the SST model is as economical as the k-epsilon model but offers greater fidelity, especially for separated flows, and a wide range of near-wall conditions. The Second Moment Closure models can give much better predictions for flows with high swirl than two equation models.
