The first step in a CFD turbomachinery analysis is obtaining an appropriate geometrical definition. Traditionally the turbomachinery industry uses a wide variety of tools for defining geometry, ranging from proprietary geometry tools, specialized commercial geometry tools, and general CAD based geometry tools.
ANSYS provides an open and flexible environment for dealing with turbomachinery geometry. It is possible to connect ANSYS to a running CAD program where the blade geometry has been defined, to import your blade, hub and shroud curves directly into ANSYS software, or design your blade geometry from scratch using ANSYS BladeModeler, a blade geometry design tool.
