Axial Compressors

The axial compressor is a major component of gas turbines, and therefore the overall gas turbine performance depends strongly on the axial compressor performance. Consequently, design engineers dedicate a significant portion of their work on the difficult task of optimizing the compressor design, for example using CFD tools extensively to improve aerodynamic efficiency and reduce costs. The power of ANSYS CFX makes it a widely-used tool for flow optimization through single to multi-stage blade rows.

ANSYS CFX continues to lead the field, as can be seen from the recent analysis of all stages of 15-stage axial compressor in a single simulation (geometry courtesy of Siemens). While complete machine analyses are not yet daily routine in industry, this application demonstrates the dedication of ANSYS CFX to push the envelope with solutions that are not only optimized for their requirements today, but are also designed to handle their needs in the future.
