Almost all processes that take place in the chemical industry include a transfer of heat. The types of heat transfer can range in difficulty from simple transport of heat in fluids or surrounding solids, through transfer of heat between fluids, to heat generation by the process itself.
All of these aspects of heat transfer are covered efficiently by the ANSYS CFX software. Simple transport is covered by convection and, perhaps turbulent, diffusion in fluids, coupled if necessary to conduction in solids. Multiphase flows, modeled in either an Eulerian or Lagrangian way, can include transfer of heat between the phases.
Further, the software includes a generic functionality for reactions between species of a fluid mixture, with the material properties automatically determining whether the reaction is endothermic or exothermic. The particle transport model also allows reactions between species in the particle phase and those in the surrounding fluid phase.
