The large potential cost savings in extending the campaign life of an iron blast furnace have prompted the use of ANSYS CFX in predicting unit operating conditions. An example is the modeling of iron flow, heat transfer and refractory wear in a blast furnace hearth. Scenarios considering various coke bed locations, under hearth cooling arrangements, solidification, refractory wear, and carbon transport have been successfully studied.
