With the new parallel Topology Optimization technology, you can perform lightweighting of structures, easily extract CAD shapes and quickly verify the optimized design. You can easily simulate spatially dependent materials like composite parts, 3-D printed components, and bones and tissues for more accurate results. The new spectral fatigue capability enables you to accurately model vias and calculate product life to better measure the reliability of electronic components. The addition of a new concrete material law, along with the ability to easily define reinforced structures, makes it easy to model complex structures in the civil engineering and nuclear application areas.
Predict vibro-acoustic product performance
Structure borne noise can be challenging to understand and predict. ANSYS 18 features new analysis systems to study both modal and harmonic acoustics. You can quickly set up and simulate models to help with things like speaker design, muffler/exhaust design and noise from electric motors.
Quickly validate optimized topologies to meet design and performance targets
The superior workflow of ANSYS 18 enables you to specify the location of supports and loads on a volume of material. As the software finds the optimal shape for your product, you can observe the progress of the solver on a chart — to see mass target progress — or in a graphic, so you can effectively see the optimized shape evolve.
Easy controls allow manufacturing constraints such as minimum material thickness, cyclic/planar symmetry and casting direction to be applied. Modal and static load cases can be taken in account to ensure your design meets your design goals.

Drop, impact and very large deformation made easy
ANSYS Mechanical adds to its already impressive toolset with the inclusion of a drop test wizard.
The drop test wizard requires you to fill in a few details and then configures the analysis settings and set up automatically. This means that seasoned and occasional users of explicit solvers can very quickly build and run models without having to do a lot of manual operations or re-learn anything.
ANSYS Mechanical has built-in topology optimization so engineers can easily determine where material can be removed for effective lightweighting of components.
