
ANSYS Academic Features - List
The following is a high level list of Academic Product features referenced in our Academic Product Features Table. A brief description is provided, in addition to hyperlinks to further details found elsewhere on our website. For further information please contact your ANSYS Inc. sales person.
SOLVERS:
- ANSYS DesignSpace (Separate task) - The Teaching level products indicated include separate tasks of ANSYS DesignSpace that have no numerical problem size limits. For example, a 25 task license includes 25 tasks of ANSYS Multiphysics plus 25 tasks of DesignSpace.
- ANSYS DesignSpace Capability - Entry level structural & thermal physics capability product that uses our ANSYS Workbench environment. A subset of ANSYS Mechanical capability.
- ANSYS Mechanical capability - Structural & thermal physics capability, linear & non linear, steady state, harmonic. modal & transient. ANSYS Mechanical is a subset of ANSYS Multiphysics.
- ANSYS Multiphysics capability - Structural, thermal, CFD(FLOTRAN) & electromagnetics (low & high frequency).
- CFX Full Capability Solver - The complete CFX fluid dynamics capability (excluding RIF Flamelet library).
- ANSYS TAS (FDTD Thermal) - TAS is a Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) general purpose thermal analysis tool. Windows 32 & 64 bit platforms only.
- AUTODYN (Explicit dynamics) - Nonlinear dynamics of solids, fluids, gas and their interactions.
- ANSYS LS-DYNA (Explicit dynamics) - Explicit dynamics capability for simulating rapid time transient, nonlinear phenomena such as metal forming processes or crash/impacts.
PRE & POST PROCESSING:
- CFX-Pre & CFX-Post - Pre & post processors specific to ANSYS CFX fluid dynamics.
- ICEM CFD Meshing: Advanced meshing tools, including the following ICEM CFD meshing methods:
- Tetra (Delaunay, Advancing front and Patch Independent Octree)
- Prism
- Hexa
- Shell Meshing (Quad and Tri, Patch based and Patch independent)
- Hexdominant
- Cartesian (Body fitted and Staircase)
- TGrid-Delaunay
- ICEM Output Interfaces for ANSYS, CFX & FLUENT - Ability to export the ICEM CFD mesh to either ANSYS, CFX or FLUENT solvers.
- ICEM Output interfaces for other solvers: Ability to export the ICEM CFD mesh to third party solvers.
- CFX-Mesh: Additional meshing tool specific to CFX. (CFX can use the ICEM CFD meshing tools also).
- Blademodeler & TurboGrid - CFX specific tools for preprocessing turbo machinery geometry.
- Trad ANSYS PrepPost (Prep7) - The traditional "ANSYS" preprocessor used for ANSYS Multiphysics & ANSYS Mechanical. Largely superceded by ANSYS Workbench.
- ANSYS LS-DYNA Drop Test Module - A pre & post processor for simulating drop tests specifically for use with ANSYS LS-DYNA.

WORKBENCH
- WorkBench GUI - A modern, intuitive event driven GUI. Various analysis tools & applications are displayed as separate tabs.
- DesignModeler - Fully parametric solid modeling & CAD import tool.
- Advanced Meshing - The ICEM CFD meshing toolset exposed in ANSYS Workbench.
- Simulation - Structural, thermal & magnetostatics pre, solve & postprocessing.
- DesignXplorer - Design of Experiments & general parametric analysis model exploration tool, includes Variational Technology (formerly DXVT).
- Fatigue Module - Simulate structural performance under cyclic loading conditions over a product's
anticipated life span.
- FE Modeler - Robust Finite Element model import from NASTRAN, Also used as a general FE element model data navigation and visualization tool.
- Rigid Body Dynamics - Rigid body & mixed flexible/rigid body structural dynamics.
- Remote Solver Manager - Ability to launch & manage batch solutions.
- Mesh Morpher -Allows parameterized models to be created from mesh data (when no geometry file is available).
HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING (HPC)
- NPROC=2 SMP & DANSYS - If this column is checked, then the academic product includes shared memory & distributed ANSYS parallel computing for two processors/cores. Applicable to structural, thermal & electromagnetic analysis.
- HPC > 2 processors available (at extra cost) - Product HPC capability can be extended beyond 2 processors/cores by buying additional ANSYS Academic HPC licenses.
- DANSYS & SMP >2 processors - This product is the additional HPC license(s) required to extend the base products HPC capability beyond 2 processors/cores. Applicable to structural, thermal & electromagnetic analysis.
- SMP & DMP (For CFX CFD) - This product is the additional HPC license(s) required to extend the base Academic Research product's CFX HPC capability beyond 1 processors/cores. Only applicable to the CFX capability.
- SMP & DMP (For AUTODYN) - This product is the additional HPC license(s) required to extend the ANSYS Academic Research AUTODYN capability beyond 1 processors/cores. Only applicable to the AUTODYN capability.
- SMP & DMP (For LS-DYNA) - This product is the additional HPC license(s) required to ANSYS Academic Research LS-DYNA solver capability beyond 1 processors/cores. Only applicable to the LS-DYNA capability.
- Frequency Sweep VT - Fast frequency domain (harmonic) sweep using Variational Technology, applicable to structural & high frequency electromagnetics physics.
- VT Accelerator - Variational Technology applied to static or transient nonlinear solutions for structural (no contact or plasticity) & thermal analyses. Performs a single point solution & extrapolates over a wide range, negating the need to perform multiple solutions.
OTHER
- Problem size limits (nods & elements) - Product has restricted numerical problem size limits (number of nodes or elements) as shown on this table.
- Fluid Structural Interaction (MFX Solver) - MFX solver is included, allowing fluid structural interaction (FSI) to be performed using ANSYS Multiphysics and ANSYS CFX solvers.
- Trad ANSYS User Prog Features - User programmable elements available when using the traditional (PREP7) interface.
- Academic screen watermark/logo - Product screen displays the ANSYS Academic logo .
- License borrowing - These Academic Teaching products allows tasks to be borrowed for up to 7 days.
