Prerequisites

  • A technical education and background in fluid mechanics and heat transfer is recommended but an engineering degree is not required.

Course Overview

This course is designed for clients who have little to no experience with ANSYS POLYFLOW, the finite-element based flow modeling software package for the analysis of polymer processing and glass forming.

The primary goal of this course is to cover the basics of using the ANSYS POLYFLOW user environment. Students will learn the details of how to use the modeling capabilities and move through the simulation process by completing hands-on exercises. The exercises focus on common polymer processing and glass forming applications such as extrusion, blow molding, and thermoforming. Geometry and mesh creation using ANSYS DesignModeler and ANSYS Meshing is also covered in detail.

Course Description

On day 1 the training will focus on geometry creation using ANSYS DesignModeler. If you know that you will be using ANSYS DesignModeler, then you should definitely plan on attending day 1 of training. Even if you don't plan on using ANSYS DesignModeler, this day of training could still be helpful since we will discuss some things to think about when creating geometries for CFD analyses and we will also talk about the geometry cleanup tools in ANSYS DesignModeler. If you are unsure if the ANSYS DesignModeler training is right for you, please contact trng-admin@ansys.com.

On day 2 the training will focus on creating your POLYFLOW meshes using ANSYS Meshing. If you will be using another program to create your CFD meshes, you may still find this day of training to be helpful because we will talk about some of the important things that you need to consider when creating CFD meshes. If you are unsure if the ANSYS Meshing training is right for you, please contact trng-admin@ansys.com.

On day 3 and 4 the training will focus on POLYFLOW and how to setup, solve and post-process your results from ANSYS POLYFLOW. Each lecture is followed by a hands-on tutorial to give the students the opportunity to use the software while learning about it.

Course Agenda

This course is intended for people who have had little or no experience with ANSYS POLYFLOW. New users of the software should register for the introductory training course which includes training on the following topics:

  • Day 1: Introduction to ANSYS DesignModeler (recommended - see Course Description for more information)
  • Day 2: Introduction to ANSYS Meshing (recommended - see Course Description for more information)
  • Day 3: Introduction to ANSYS POLYFLOW
  • Day 4: Continuation of ANSYS POLYFLOW training
