More Information:

Prerequisites

  • A technical education and/or background in high frequency electromagnetics is recommended but having an engineering degree is not required.
  • It is also stongly recommended, but not required, that you are familiar with the Getting Started Guides provided with the software.
  • Some experience with HFSS is recommended.

Course Overview

This two-day course uses examples and real design exercises to provide a comprehensive understanding of HFSS with the specific emphasis on Signal Integrity. The course is intended for beginners but assumes some prior knowledge of HFSS.

Course Description

This class covers using the Ansoft HFSS Desktop features, creating and manipulating parametric 3D models, and working with different data types. Users will be introduced to real design data editing and translation thru AnsoftLinks and creating ready to solve HFSS 3D models. The first day of training will discuss boundaries and excitations, with an overview focusing on the practical aspects of passive device modeling and how to improve performance and productivity. The following day students will create fully parameterized 3D HFSS models for "what-if" types of analyses.

The second day covers using Ansoft Designer and Nexxim software and its features, creating schematic for full channel frequency and time domain analysis. Students will be able to create different types of eye diagram plots, perform equalization and plot bit error rate diagrams from the examples introduced during class.

Topics to be covered:

  • Introduction
  • HFSS Overview
  • Simulation Basics
  • HFSS Boundary Conditions
  • Designer/Nexxim Overview
  • HFSS Integral Equation (HFSS-IE) Solver Overview

Each course chapter is followed by "hands-on" workshops and exercises.
