Battery Cell Electrochemical and Thermal Modeling

Two battery models traditionally used separated have been connected together in this presentation. The Newman electrochemistry model has been used mainly to study the electrochemical process in a lithium ion battery. Due to its 1d nature, its extension to thermal analysis in its 1d framework has met limited success. Battery 3d cell thermal model can be used for accurate temperature prediction. But such a model needs battery discharge performance data as input. In this presentation, Newman model is used to predict the battery discharge performance, which then is used as inputs to the battery 3d cell thermal model. Such an approach makes the thermal prediction more accurate than Newman model used alone. It also eliminates the needs of testing data for the battery cell thermal model.
