Ask the Expert – The Discrete Element Method (DEM) in ANSYS Fluent
The Discrete Element Method is a numerical method to analyze the motion of a large number of particulates. In this method the particles (particulates, droplets, or bubbles) are represented as separate entities. Interactions between the particles are modeled explicitly using contact laws. The DEM model has proven to be versatile in modeling the behavior of granular particulates. When coupled to fluid flow it provides a model based on first principles to describe fluidized bed and slurry transport. In this webinar, the DEM model implemented in ANSYS Fluent 14.0 will be discussed. Examples of the use of the model will be presented and best practices for the use of the model will be discussed.
