ANSYS Engineering Knowledge Manager Shared Features
The following options are available for the shared product installation:
- A shared basic EKM server can be quickly and easily set up with minimal effort in your LAN for a typical workgroup of up to 10 users.
- This is a very fast out-of-the-box pre-configured setup for ANSYS EKM. All software components necessary to run ANSYS EKM are supplied as a part of the standard installation.
- A shared advanced EKM server can be set up in a non-cluster or cluster configuration in a WAN for a large workgroup of any number of users.
- You can configure EKM to work with your choice of relational database.
In ANSYS EKM 14.0, the licensing framework has been simplified. Now, you will only need an EKM individual user license key or an EKM shared user license key to access EKM, based on the type of server you are accessing.

Access Management
ANSYS EKM software has a very low IT footprint/complexity, while providing full control for administration needs such as roles, access control, authentication and integration to external systems for authentication. The web-enabled interface in ANSYS EKM allows secure access to the data repository and compute server from local or wide-area networks. It enables you to view and access data or submit and track simulation jobs remotely.
Intuitive User Interface
ANSYS EKM Individual offers an easy-to-use and intuitive user interface. A "Getting Started" wizard displays actions that you can perform when the application is launched, such as:
- Add content
- Search simulation files
- Create simulation details and comparison reports
Point to folders located on a local machine, or a mapped or shared network drive, and add content from these folder locations to the ANSYS EKM Individual repository. The properties and attributes are automatically extracted from the source files. Any time the source files are updated on a local disk or drive, the content is synchronized so that updated properties are available in ANSYS EKM Individual. Files indexed by ANSYS EKM Individual can be retrieved using keyword and advanced search features. The search criteria can be saved, edited and reused later.
Data Management
Any digital file, including simulation files, can be managed in ANSYS EKM. When files are added to the ANSYS EKM repository, the metadata or user properties are automatically extracted from supported ANSYS simulation files. This metadata is used to search and retrieve the files as well as to create simulation detail and comparison reports. Data mining allows you to extract and share results from the simulation files. The configuration management supports version and revision control. The pedigree tracking function helps you to understand the implicit and explicit dependency in an intuitive, visual way.
Intuitive End-to-End Support System for CAE Data Management
With a focus primarily on improving the day-to-day activities of CAE practitioners, EKM — part of the ANSYS Workbench platform — is a comprehensive solution that lets you easily manage share and control simulation IP.
General Capabilities:
- Data management
- Integration and automation
- Smart search
- Data mining
- Lifecycle history
- Access management
- Pedigree/dependencies
- Dashboards
- Relationships
- Security
With an easy-to-use web interface, EKM allows you to very easily accommodate your current practices. Capabilities include creating custom project and work breakdown structures, and adding files to a repository from a local file system or an external data storage device. The data access on demand model allows efficient usage of available bandwidth between user and repository locations.
Customization
Customized applications can be easily defined, posted and published using the web portal capability in ANSYS EKM. These customized applications allow even non-expert users to run specific analyses using posted templates, as well as to perform what-if analysis to determine if the simulation meets expectations.
Process & Workflow Management
You can create simulation workflows to manage all aspects of the simulation process. You can create, edit and publish the simulation workflows and lifecycle definitions. Open architecture and XML format, journal and recording, decision nodes, branching, iterations, email notification, progress tracking, sign-offs and batch job submission capabilities are available out of the box.
Process Management
Any digital file, including simulation files, can be managed in ANSYS EKM. When files are added to the ANSYS EKM repository, the meta-data or user properties are automatically extracted from the supported ANSYS simulation files. This meta-data is used in searching and retrieving the files as well as in creating simulation detail and comparison reports. Data mining allows users to extract and share results from the simulation files. The configuration management supports version and revision control. The pedigree tracking function helps users to understand the implicit and explicit dependency in an intuitive, visual way.

Reporting
EKM provides a host of reporting capabilities to allow performance metrics versus targets comparison, project status, and comparison of simulation property similarities and differences between multiple files and for result summaries.
Search
EKM supports simple and advanced keyword, metadata, property and report-based search, with filtering based on object type, subprojects, etc. The tool automatically extracts simulation properties and other metadata from added files. Users can easily customize external format metadata extraction.
Report Creation
ANSYS EKM Individual allows creation of simulation details and comparison reports. These reports help to translate the simulation intent into a user-friendly account that can be saved in a standard format, such as PDF and EXCEL, among others. Simulation files can be compared by creating a comparison report to help identify the best simulation from multiple candidates to meet current needs.
Simulation details report
The searched and retrieved simulation files can be opened in associated applications directly from within ANSYS EKM Individual. For example, *.cas files will open in ANSYS Fluent software or ANSYS *.db files will open in ANSYS Mechanical APDL. The folder that contains the searched files can be opened on the mapped drive, shared drive or local computer.
Scalability & Flexibility
ANSYS EKM is a truly scalable solution — easy to deploy and configure. The system provides entry points for both the single-user desktop and multi-user multi-site deployment, depending on your needs.
Simulation Collaboration
The extensive simulation process and data management capabilities provided by the ANSYS EKM product can be leveraged directly from the ANSY Workbench environment. ANSYS Workbench provides the option of connecting to the local individual repository or a shared repository enabling CAE/simulation collaboration.

ANSYS EKM file transfer client (FTC) can be accessed from ANSYS Workbench.
Transfer of local files to the ANSYS EKM Workgroup or Enterprise repository allows collaborative simulation.
The ANSYS EKM file transfer client can be launched from the file menu in ANSYS Workbench, and files can be transferred from a local project to a central ANSYS EKM server database. By connecting to a shared ANSYS EKM repository to which other users have access, local simulation files can be easily shared to enhance collaboration, and files can be searched and retrieved to promote greater reuse.
