Below is a listing of some of the issues we have seen with ANSYS applications running on Windows 7
Problem Description: When installing ANSYS 12 on Windows 7 the program installs in C:\Users\username instead of Program Files.
Resolution: Uninstall ANSYS, turn off UAC and reinstall to C:\Program Files
User Account Control (UAC) can help you prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. It works by prompting you for permission when a task requires administrative rights, such as installing software or changing settings that affect other users.
IPv6 is the latest address protocol that will eventually replace IPv4. From Windows Vista onward it has been kept enabled by default, but it is also a fact that IPv6 is not yet common and many software, routers, modems, and other network equipment do not support it yet including ANSYS. We recommend that you disable this protocol.

Problem Description: You receive this error when trying to install ANSYS applications: "Error - You cannot install on Vista RTM. You must install Service Pack to proceed."
Resolution: Right click on the executable and choose "Run as Administrator" before installing
Problem Description. When launching Workbench you recieve an error: No Servers found in ANSYSLI_LOCAL_PORT or similar
Resolution: Uninstall ANSYS products. Reinstall by right-clicking on the setup.exe and choose "Run as Administrator".
Problem Description: ANSYS Mechanical APDL-Solve run slows down on Windows 7 when the machine is locked.
Resolution: By default the Windows 7 Power Management is set to "Balanced". Changing the power settings to "High Performance" should resolve this issue. The Balanced setting slows the disk down and enables options like hibernation.
Go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Power Options > check High Performance.
Windows 7 requires that you have a certified and updated graphics driver installed for this OS.
Once you have your video card and driver information go to the Video Card vendors
website and download a newer driver. Choose one of the links for your video card vendors website. Nvidia ATI
NOTE: It is very important that you follow these steps exactly, especially removing the existing driver in Step 3.
Problem Description: The FLUENT GUI opens up but you cannot choose any menu options. The FLUENT TUI works fine. You might see this error: FLUENT error: "The FLUENT application failed to start".
Resolution: Update your video card driver by following the directions above.
